This is a postgraduate programme of study that can be taken flexibly according to your professional commitments and is designed to support you as you reflect on and develop your practice, whether in the UK or Internationally. Graduates from this programme will become leaders in their field, able to respond imaginatively to rapidly changing and challenging workplaces.

What qualifications will you need?

Entry requirements

You need to be a healthcare professional in active practice, or eligible to be so, with access to learners and educational environments.

You will have a first degree (or equivalent), and will have studied at an English medium university in the UK or Internationally (or have a current IELTS certificate score of 7.5 or above).

What will you study?

Teaching and facilitating learning in health professions education

This module addresses the essential features of teaching and learning in the clinical setting. It draws on the principles of adult learning and is aimed at supporting healthcare teachers as they engage in facilitating the educational journey of others.

Assessment of learning in health professions education

Here you will look at the evidence to ensure assessment is robust, valid and reliable and how to balance compassionate, safe and effective patient care whilst developing competent healthcare professionals.

Designing and planning learning in health professions education

The module content covers the principles of curriculum design and evaluation including models and research evidence. Sessions will cover situational analysis and the alignment of teaching and learning activities with outcomes.

Teaching in the clinical setting in health professions education

In this you will develop a reflective portfolio organised around the GMC/Academy Of Medical Educators standards for revalidation.

Management and leadership in health professions education

Content includes defining and discussing leadership attributes, courageous conversations, managing change, developing resilient individuals and teams and teaching professionalism.

Negotiated learning in health professions education

In this module you will select a topic of your choice with mode of study and assessment designed by you.

Research Methodology in Clinical Education

This is delivered entirely on-line for study at a time and place convenient to you.


Your chance to carry out extended piece of research or evaluation on a topicof your choice.

Teaching and Assessment

How will you be taught?

Teaching is in small groups with exploration and guided self direction a key strategy.

Assessment is portfolio based.

Successful completion will enable you to successfully support and guide the educational development of others working in healthcare and allied disciplines


How much will it cost?

Tuition fees

The fees are £750 per 15 credit module.

Postgraduate Loans

The Government will provide a loan of up to £10,000 per student for postgraduate Masters study. It will be at your own discretion whether the loan is used towards fees, maintenance or other costs.
