Staff review and development scheme

All staff take part in the staff development scheme. It's an annual review which gives you an opportunity to look back over the past year and to plan your objectives for the future.

Training and development

From courses and networks to workshops and mentoring we have a range of development opportunities, including:

  • core skills development (e.g. time management, communication skills)
  • coaching and mentoring skills
  • learning and teaching related topics
  • research supervision training
  • staff can enrol on degree programmes and study part-time – at any level including undergraduate right through to PhD



We have an excellent, Ofsted approved nursery on campus.  The nursery cares for children, aged from 3 months to 5 years, of staff and students.

We offer a salary sacrifice scheme for any childcare costs, providing you valuable savings on tax and National Insurance.


Access to facilities

Sport and leisure

On campus, take advantage of our fitness centre, sports hall and sports pitches –all offered at very affordable rates for staff. There are plenty of classes available through our Sports Centre, including dance, yoga and pilates.

The Hive

The Hive, Europe’s first joint university and public library, offers state of the art facilities. Opened by Her Majesty The Queen in July 2012, The Hive includes collections of international significance. The Hive's website also links you to a range of online journals and other resources. Your staff ID card acts as your library ticket.


You can use computers, with internet-access, in the library and in cafés around campus. You can also access specialist research services.

Shops and cafés

There are a number of cafes and a canteen conveniently located on campus. The Students’ Union isn't just for students-- staff are also welcome to enjoy the bar and cafe, as well as use the convenience store.


Travel and transport

Worcester has excellent local transport and extensive coach and rail services that connect the city with the surrounding areas.

The 31 bus, which runs throughout the city, stops right on campus.

On campus car parking is available (for a relatively small charge) but we are also committed to reducing our carbon emissions, so we encourage staff to walk or cycle where possible.

We offer a valuable salary sacrifice scheme to purchase a bike for travelling to work.

We provide spaces to disabled staff who need vehicle access to campus.


Staff wellbeing

We're keen to support all our staff to help them stay healthy and happy and fulfill their potential.

The University‘s wellbeing plan is already changing working life at Worcester - from creating allotments to improving sporting facilities. We're also using the results of the wellbeing survey to make the University a better, healthier place for you to work.

The McClelland Centre

The on campus McClelland Centre offers you an exciting new approach to personal health and fitness, with first-class exercise facilities, nutritional advice, massage and counselling all in one dedicated centre.
