Residential Life Team Member - Open to Current University of Worcester Students only

The University has approximately 1200 students in University Managed Halls Accommodation.

The aim of this post is to: 

- Act as peer support for these students 

- Assisting with their induction and transition into University life 

- Supporting their wellbeing throughout the year 

- Providing basic guidance and information 

- Signposting queries or issues where appropriate 

- Help organise social and sporting events to foster a community atmosphere

We are therefore, looking for flexible, willing and committed individuals who are able to take on a variety of tasks (some administrative) and respond to the needs of our students. It is crucial that you are personable and can relate well to others. 

This is a very important role for our student community at Worcester and The Residential Life Team members provide an essential link between student residents (some of whom will be situated off campus) and the Residential Team and management. 

We strive to ensure students have a positive experience of living in our accommodation and the Residential Life Team members are key to supporting students to settle in, live co-operatively and enjoy University. 

All successful applicants are required to attend a comprehensive training programme (August) and will have the option to live in University managed accommodation for the fulfillment of their duties for which rent will be payable.

Main duties

Main duties

1. To develop a sense of community within University Managed Accommodation, helping new residents to form good social bonds and act in a socially responsible way. 

2. To participate and play an active role in the welcoming and induction of new residents. This will include a warm welcome, the organisation of ‘mixer’ and intra-mural events (non-alcoholic, social / sporting / orientation activities), regular welfare checks and the identification of any potential welfare issues that management need to be aware of. 

3. To ensure an excellent and bespoke welcome for early arrivals into accommodation, including nursing, education, and international students. 

4. To assist with the preparation of accommodation at the beginning of the academic year, ensuring that rooms and flats are ready and of a good standard for arrivals. 

5. To assist with administrative duties as required.

6. To provide support to the Students’ Union and Student Services, including the promotion of campaigns. 

7. To take a lead role in the promotion of University Accommodation at Open Events, including the use of your room / flat as a ‘Show flat.’ 

8. To provide a signposting service for University support services via the University’s firstpoint facility, where necessary, liaising with management on issues of a more serious nature. 

9. To take part in a regular drop-in rota for students who wish to discuss accommodation queries or issues informally. 

10. To attend fortnightly team meetings. 

11. To offer basic guidance to students in relation to their licence agreement and any conditions therein regarding, for example, Health & Safety, room inspections or moving out. 

12. To work in partnership with the Facilities team, including Security and Cleaning, taking guidance from them where necessary. 

13. To assist with the students departing accommodation, including Easter, Christmas Breaks as well as the main move out weekend. 

14. To assist and promote awareness of Sustainability in Halls, including recycling, energy conservation, and supporting campaigns such as ‘Student Switch Off’. 

15. To assist, promote and offer basic guidance to students at and around the Housing Fair. 

16. To participate in a comprehensive training week, which will include basic first aid training (an inability to attend this training may well affect your chances of being offered a position).
