Cleaning Services is part of Security & Operations located within the Estates / Facilities Department and is responsible for the cleaning of all University sites and University managed facilities.
* Hours of work:
A three week rolling rota is currently in operation from Monday to Friday: 6.30am - 2.30pm, 7am - 3pm, 11am - 7pm. You will be required to work no more than two Saturdays per month during semester. During summer months (June to September) the University offers a conferencing facility so some flexibility in hours will be required during this period to include weekends and evenings.

- Main duties
To be responsible for supervising a large team of cleaners and working areas/facilities on and off campus which will include:
1. To ensure sufficient staffing in key areas, reallocating staff to accommodate busy periods and staff absence.
2.To monitor standards of cleaning, carrying out regular audits of facilities and addressing any issues; providing additional support and training where necessary.
3.To undertake tasks alongside cleaning team members using appropriate equipment when required to do so.
4.To carry out return to work interviews following absence of team members.
5.To complete yearly appraisal with cleaning staff and carry out ‘record of conversation’ meetings where appropriate.
6. To liaise with the Cleaning Services Manager regarding team members’ performance and behaviour.
7. To be responsible for the day to day cleaning operations of designated areas.
8. To keep the Cleaning Services Manager informed of relevant issues.
9. To take a proactive approach to streamlining cleaning practices and processes with other services provided by the Facilities teams, liaising with colleagues, seeking feedback, making suggestions and contributing to developing systems as required.
10. To maintain appropriate stock levels of cleaning materials, monitoring and ordering stock as required.
11. To ensure that team members have appropriate materials and supplies for daily working (including delivering stock to various university sites).
12. To log maintenance requests on the University Customer Portal and liaise with the Maintenance Department on progress relating to requests.
13. To be responsible for keys and the issuing of keys to cleaning staff.
14. To provide induction and training for new cleaning staff and monitor progress.
15. To carry out training to British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) standards and carry out assessment of cleaners undergoing BICSc accreditation training.
16. To conduct regular team meetings with cleaners.
17. To assist the Cleaning Services Manager with updating of Service Level Agreements.

1. Relevant cleaning experience.
2. Commitment to achieving high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
3. Ability to be flexible and have an organised and methodical approach.
4. Must be punctual and reliable.
5. Car driver with a full clean driving license (to enable travel between university sites).
6. Good level of ICT skills, to include Microsoft Word for writing reports, Microsoft Excel for rotas, processing emails and logging maintenance requests.
7. Must be trustworthy, maintaining confidentiality at all times in respect of University matters and to prevent disclosure of confidential and sensitive information.
8. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
9. A commitment to providing a high level of customer service with good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and confidently with a wide range of people, both orally and in writing
10. Commitment to undergo BICSc accreditation and Assessor training.
